CAPE has successfully completed a significant two-stage refurbishment project at the Wilson Home Trust facility in Takapuna, creating modern, comfortable, and highly functional spaces for its residents. This intricate project involved comprehensive structural and interior upgrades, enhancing the quality of life for a vulnerable part of our society.

The project was carefully phased to ensure continuous care and minimal disruption for staff and children. Stage 1 saw the refurbishment and fitout of two existing villas, alongside the addition of a new nurse station and playroom. During this phase, occupants were temporarily housed elsewhere within the facility. Once Stage 1 was complete, staff and children moved back into their new spaces, allowing Stage 2 to commence with the renovation of four additional villas.

Both stages involved a commitment to structural integrity and modern amenities. The existing timber pile and subfloor framing were upgraded to support a live load, ensuring long-term durability. All wall framing was brought up to NZBC standards and insulated to H1 specifications for superior energy efficiency. The buildings were completely re-roofed, and interiors received a full modern fit-out, including new kitchens, open-plan living areas, bathrooms, and bedrooms.

A standout feature is the installation of a state-of-the-art track hoist system in all villas. This innovative addition will significantly ease the work of staff and make moving children within the villas far more comfortable and dignified.

Beyond the interiors, the project also revitalized the courtyard area, which is partially encircled by the villas and playroom. A new deck area provides a safe and protected outdoor space for children and staff to enjoy, offering spectacular sea views with Rangitoto Island in the background. This outdoor upgrade adds immense value to the facility, promoting well-being and connection with nature.

This project truly stands as a testament to CAPE's dedication to creating strong, practical, and comfortable environments tailored to the unique needs of the community it serves.
