The Generator fitout involved the refurbishment of three floors over a 10 week programme. The space was reconfigured to include a new reception, multiple tenancy spaces, meeting rooms, boardrooms, kitchen and café facilities, and two bars.

The project featured a number of standout design elements that contributed to its award nominations. These included extensive herringbone solid oak flooring, Autex fin and perforated GIB feature ceilings, Corian and brass bars with bronze mirrored ceiling bulkheads, and oak and leather reception counters.

Bronze mirrored wall linings were used throughout to enhance the sense of space, while diamond patterned leather panelling and reeded oak feature walls added warmth and texture.

Working within the existing building presented several challenges. Alongside the compressed programme, new work needed to integrate seamlessly with retained elements from the previous tenancy. This included matching curved veneer and solid timber window frames, fixed timber joinery, existing floor tiling, and aluminium glazed partitions from discontinued systems.

Another key challenge was installing a glazed operable wall manufactured overseas, which required a substantial structural steel support system. CAPE worked closely with the design team to redesign the structure so it could be integrated into the existing building. We also constructed a large engineered ceiling to support a suspended living plant installation, creating one of the defining features of the completed space.
