After successfully winning a P&G and Margin Tender, we were brought onto a team that consisted of RCG, OCTA, Telco, Grass Valley, Marshall Day and Lough Downey to work through the design and budget, all whilst progressing with early works on site. This approach helped to ensure delivery within the extremely short time-frame we were given. MTV had to be ready to broadcast live from day one, as their move in date could not be shifted.

We set a design and budget programme whereby trades, packages and areas were signed off ahead of works progressing on site so that the construction of the fitout was not delayed. We helped with practical input around the design and buildability of some of the complex finishes, sound rating, and service reticulation.

The fitout consisted of numerous meeting rooms and a central gathering area focused around the café and breakout space. Throughout cedar T&G was used to give the fitout a feeling of warmth. Through the use of detailed acoustic panels and ceilings the open plan layout remains in keeping with the knowledge that there is a live news broadcasting studio as well as numerous recording and editing suites.

Due to the extensive amount of tech required to operate all of the recording, voice over studios, editing suites and studios we worked closely with MTV tech contractor Grass Valley to ensure their cables and hardware were all in place and working for day one. Part of achieving this was to ensure that the central apparatus room, with some 15 tons of media gear, was all up and running well ahead of the actual construction of the fitout. This allowed for test runs and training to be carried out ahead of the final cross over. Due to this collaborative approach from the beginning, the project was handed over, fully functional, to budget, and on time ready to go live.
